Press release 26.03.25 We are on! For those wondering about the conditions! This winter will hardly be remembered as a great snow year. In recent weeks and days, we've looked closely into the conditions and are excited to share why we're optimistic, despite the low snow year - and what we've done to ensure the best possible event! Since planning Sigló Freeride in 2019, we've always aimed to plan it professionally. We knew from the start that conditions could affect the event, the competition, and the ski area. Every year, we've checked factors like avalanche risk, icy conditions, bad weather, visibility, and general snow conditions. The event is then held in the safest and best way possible! This year, we're holding the competition for the fourth time and we're optimistic. We know there hasn't been much snow. Of course, we can't change that, but we wanted to provide the best possible information on what to expect. Back in 2019, we defined six competition venues. They are all accessible from the Siglufjörður Ski Area. The slopes face in a semicircle from NNW to SSE and are located at altitudes between 400-880 meters. This gives us the ability to choose the best slope based on snow accumulation, sun exposure, and therefore overall snow conditions. The competition venue we've used so far faces east. Therefore, snow in that venue might melt before the event, as the sun gets stronger. We might need to use another competition venue, facing more to north. We have carefully considered how to plan the event. Even though the snow conditions are as they are, we're optimistic about having a great weekend. We have good slopes to choose from, and we have plans A, B, and C ready. The weather forecast for the coming days is also favorable for snow conditions, and we're at a higher elevation than the ski area itself. It's currently snowing in Siglufjörður, and cold temperatures are forecasted for the week. With this update, we want to reach everyone who has been wondering if the event will be canceled due to lack of snow. Many have contacted us, saying they're excited to come but, based on the news, are worried there won't be enough snow to hold the event. This year, you can expect new things on Friday and Saturday. We continue to be a platform for skiers and snowboarders who freeride. The competition we run is inspired by the FWT, and our goal is to improve and strengthen our scene! We look forward to seeing you in Sigló having fun!
